FIN Stack is data-centric and not a traditional "controller-centric" system.
HVAC controllers started as electrical and pneumatic, and evolved to electronics and then software. Graphics, internet access, and analytics have been bolted on.

FIN Stack is a new approach using data-centric design with a database at the heart of the system. FIN Stack uses a suite of Apps (like a mobile phone) to provide all the functionality. Input from comms apps and connectors feeds the database; graphics, analytics, and other apps access, process and display data, and control apps perform control functions. Link FIN Stack to the most advanced systems using Rest API, or connect to legacy brand-specific controllers, or even old buildings with a simple thermostat and time clock system. For FIN Stack, data is data. Data management and connectivity is the key.

[4] FIN Stack uses and automates Haystack Tagging. It's maybe hard to see why Tagging is such a huge step forwards until you try it in practice. FIN Stack supports the up-front effort to make sure everything is tagged correctly. Then the benefits start to flow in terms of time and effort saved in setting up a system with automated 100% error-free site and equipment references. Analytics, reporting, maintenance, dashboards, etc all link through tags. The correct labels appear on site graphics with a single click, and any changes are made only once and propagate through the system. That's just the beginning, tagging also allows the database to be interrogated. E.g. preventive maintenance. "Give me a list of all AHUs connected to rooms where temperature has been more than 2 degrees too high in the last month and the filters are showing high pressures". Then you can plan inspection, cleaning or filter change. Easy. Powerful. Saves a lot of money and effort, and creates happy customers who will be impressed by the analytics and dashboards.

Edge2Cloud. The advantages of stand-alone on-site controllers, with the best of cloud-based connectivity. FIN Stack is designed with a highly secure Edge2Cloud architecture, and simplicity for the user. No need to send all your data building sensor to a remote site - and then return part of it for control. Edge2Cloud controllers do most of the control and other tasks on-site, and send only the data you need - for analytics and site management - over a highly secure link. Equally, the secure link is used in the other direction to change programming, and for other control functions. Data volumes are much reduced, losing connectivity during an outage does not mean losing control or data. Multiple buildings can have site-specifc remote dashboards and can also feed multiple custom KPI dashboards at other remote locations for other users or for technical staff.
